Dear Bikini Whisperer,

I keep hearing about the cheeky bottom trend, and I have no idea what it is. What even is it? How do you do it? — Cheeky & Clueless

Dear Cheeky & Clueless,

When it comes to the cheeky trend, it's all about coverage at the backside. If you like to show some skin, but don't want a straight-up thong, the cheeky bottom is for you. It's basically the mid-point between moderate coverage and a Brazilian bikini bottom. It's also not just a cut for a two-piece — it works the same way for one-piece swimsuits, too. The key to nailing this trend comes down to the details – whether it's side ties, scrunching at the back, or a higher-waisted cut. The options are literally endless, you just have to find the one that suits you (pun intended).

This bikini bottom by Triya is a classic example of cheeky coverage. The crease at the bottom of your backside is out and a moderate amount of cheek is showing. What distinguishes this bottom, though, are the side ties. Depending on your personal style, you can adjust them to sit near the top of your hips for a leg-lengthening high-cut silhouette or leave them low-rise to elongate your torso. The choice is yours.

See, a cheeky rear can also be executed with a one-piece swimsuit. This suit's got business in the front, party in the back. The more modest front is contrasted by a seductive open scoop back and a cheeky cut to show some skin without being overly sexy.

If your body type leans toward slender, try a cheeky bikini bottom with ruching at the back. A vertical seam with scrunched fabric hugs your curves and defines your booty. Flat pancake butt, no longer!

Boys + Arrows Bikini

The classic hipster-style bottom is best for athletic body shapes or for those looking for coverage at the sides. The seamless, extra-wide side straps sit comfortably on your hips and lend well to the minimalist style. The low-rise cut makes your torso appear longer and the cheeky back keeps this bottom from looking too modest.

Cheeky coverage also pairs perfectly with a mid-rise or high-waisted cut. Extra fabric at the waistline conceals your lower tummy (if that's what you're looking for). The more minimal coverage at back balances out the coverage at the stomach for a balanced (and might I say, super chic look).
