This week finds us bookended by two festive holiday weekends—with Christmas in the past and a new year straight ahead, we plan to find reasons to celebrate and keep the feels flowing till the ball drops on Saturday night. While the idea of a "cleansing" cocktail sounds cockamamie, stay with us: there's nothing like the fresh, tart bite of grapefruit to make us feel like we're on the right side of virtue—even if it is swizzled up with tequila and a drop of agave.
Since we're feeling kind of overloaded on holiday flavors, a crisp, tequila-based Paloma seems like the perfect tipple to keep the party going while steering clear of those sugary specialties that definitely don't leave us feeling festive the morning after. Using premium blanco tequila keeps the hangover risk at bay, while the bright, citrus flavors make even the chilliest winter evening feel warm and sunny.
The Perfect Paloma Cocktail
1 1/2 shots of reposado tequila (or any good quality blanco)
Juice of half a ruby red grape fruit
1/2 shot of agave syrup or sugar syrup
About 75ml club soda
A squirt of fresh lime juice (optional)
