In The World Of Swimwear, She Rides The High Wave

Posted by Bikini Owner

Welcome to Bikini Confidential, where week-to-week our favorite designers and tastemakers dish all about their favorite beaches, accessories, and necessities to living a well-rounded Bikini girl life.

Haute Hawaiian swimwear brand Issa de’ mar is recognized by Bikini girls around the world for its daring cut-outs and signature criss-cross details. Born on the same sands that co-founders Marissa Eveland and Melissa Jasniy were raised on (Oahu’s North Shore), Issa de’ mar has been a literal labor of love and friendship from the beginning.

Founding her own swimwear line seemed the obvious path for Marissa, who has been sewing her own swimsuits since she was 11 and surfing competitively. She moved into a cozy beach bungalow with Melissa to launch the brand, and began by sewing each suit by hand. And while Issa de’ mar has become much larger than its bungalow basement beginnings, the gorgeous new spring collection, Tribe 2015, is one of many examples of how Marissa and Melissa’s vision and attention to craftsmanship and detail has remained a mainstay of Issa de' mar.

This week, Marissa shares her thoughts on the key to happiness and who she’d be if she wasn’t a designer (hint: it’s not human). Scroll through our questionnaire below to find out more about Issa de’ mar’s Marissa Eveland and the brand's to-die-for suits from the spring collection, like the Kenya one-piece (the neck-piece is so bad-ass, we would literally let it choke us to death if that means we could be buried in this bikini). And if you think that’s extreme, wait until you read all about Marissa’s biggest beach fear!
