Post-Baby Bikini Picks From Gala Serré
A pregnant, glowing Serré.
We know it seems like we're living the bikini dream, but Dutch blogger Gala Serré takes it to the next level. The swim expert behind My Bikini Must-Haves has devoted her life to sifting through oodles of bikinis to report on the crème de la crème, often in the form of dreamy photo shoots on gorgeous, sandy shores. Serré just became a mom, which has offered her a new perspective on lots of things, bikinis included. We knew she'd be the perfect person to tap for advice for all of you new moms out there who are getting ready for summer, so we asked Serré to offer her ultimate post-baby bikini edit, which you'll find below.
"Four months ago, I became a mother for the first time and since that day my life has changed in a lot of ways. Every day I’m so thankful that I can spend all my time with my sweet, little, baby boy—but a few months into motherhood, the newness fades away and you start to pay more attention to yourself and your body again. Being a bikini blogger puts quite a bit of pressure on bouncing back ASAP after giving birth. I just had my first post-baby bikini shoot, and I have to admit it was stressy to prepare for. I think most moms can relate when I say that your body definitely looks different after having a baby—but truthfully, I'd rather devote all my attention to my baby then be at the gym everyday. I can understand why some women feel insecure about their post-baby bikini body, but instead I suggest you think about the amazing things your body is capable of and be proud of it, regardless of how much it's changed since giving birth.
I know that first post-baby swim shopping trip can be stressful, so I've zeroed in on a few styles that work for figures that might be in a state of flux. It's important to remember that as your body is changing, you want to wear something that you feel comfortable and confident in. A few things to consider are whether you're ready for a bikini or feel more comfortable in a one piece, whether you need to think about nursing or pumping, and that carrying a baby around means that the less ties and strings, the better! Whether you have something to hide or not, these suits will make you look amazing." —Gala Serré
I love this Contessa Volpi Sophia top, $72, because it's great if you're nursing for easy access, and the double straps and ample coverage also make it smart for a post-baby bust. The medium-rise bottom, $72, offers modest coverage and has a flattering ruched panel to camouflage remaining baby weight.
The Capittana Honolulu one piece, $169, laces up, which makes it adjustable for a changing body, and the vertical tribal print stripes are fun (and camouflages a multitude of body changes).
The Aikido Hana top, $110 and Souma bottom, $110, are so on-trend, yet also totally post-baby body friendly. The high-waisted brief will help you feel pulled-in and slimmed while the long-line, supportive bandeau top is sexy but offers full-coverage for your newly pumped-up boobs.
