Kimberly Snyder shares her best secrets pt.2

Posted by Bikini Owner

Last week, Kimberly Snyder — our all-time fave nutritionist and a best-selling author — broke it down for us, from eating for the chakras to losing holidays pounds fast. Today, she shares what’s in her kitchen that she can’t live without and other magical ingredients we should try – consider this a secret memo on living a well-rounded life, and getting a fit, beautiful body, inside and out.

Anything in general that you recently tried that worked wonders?

A trick of some sort? My secret ingredient: raw apple cider vinegar. A little can go a long way in helping to promote optimal digestion and encouraging the growth of healthy bacteria. Raw apple cider vinegar is high in minerals and potassium, which helps with cleansing your body. Add it to your salad dressings and other recipes.

My secret weapon against acne has been the Probiotic & Enzyme Salad, which replaces the good bacteria you may have lost through poor dietary choices in the past. You can have this in addition to the SBO Probiotics supplements. Check out my site for the free recipe.

I advise my readers and clients to keep chlorella tablets in their purse. They require more thinking ahead, as you have to get them from a health store (the local grocery isn’t going to have them). Chlorella is extremely alkalizing in the body and helps balance against acidic elements in the diet, including processed foods, sodas, and animal products. It's around 50 percent protein, with all essential amino acids to form a complete protein, B vitamins, vitamin E, and carotenoids — chlorella not only contributes to beautiful skin and hair, but it can help ward off hunger … until you can get to better options.

Your favorite pre-workout and post-workout snack or regimen?

I make my signature Glowing Green Smoothie daily, and it’s something I have all of my clients drink as well. It’s loaded with fiber, which is essential for promoting ongoing cleansing and crucial for glowing skin. It also has more greens in one serving — blended for easier assimilation into your body — than most people get in a week (plus most people don’t chew as well as they should!). It’s the ultimate beauty fuel, packed with beauty vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other phytonutrients. It will also give you tons of sustained energy.

Post-workout, I have my Power Protein Smoothie and/or my Chia Seed Delight, which are both packed with easily digestible and assimilated protein, omega fats, antioxidants and minerals.

What's in your fridge or pantry that you can't live without?

Veggies and fruit! Load up! They should make up the majority of your grocery cart. They’re great for your skin, with lots of vitamins, minerals and nutrients, which help contribute to the overall radiance of your skin. Try to source foods like cucumbers, seasonal fruit (right now, pears, apples, etc.), kale, purple cabbage.…

Red bell peppers are one of my favorite foods. First, they are loaded with vitamin C, which can help to repair and regenerate collagen, the protein that give structure to your skin. Red bell peppers are low in sugar and high in nutrients – even more than other color peppers. They are a good source of mineral silicon, which diminishes wrinkles and strengthens cells so skin appears less aged.

Celery is a beauty detoxifier — it can help you look and feel healthier overall by eliminating toxins from the body. It also promotes healthy and normal kidney function, resulting in support for the liver. Not only is celery great for the outside, it’s great for the inside — with a strong balance of potassium and sodium, celery helps flush out excess bodily fluids. Celery contains a de-stressing compound called pthalide — this relaxes the muscles around the arteries to allow blood vessels to dilate and help reduce stress hormones and lower blood pressure.

Spinach is very high in beta carotene, which converts to the powerful anti-aging vitamin A. It promotes youthful skin by allowing for proper moisture retention in the epidermis, helping to prevent wrinkles, remove dead skin cells from your body, and make room for fresh, new ones. Spinach also contains lipoic acid, which helps antioxidant vitamins C and E regenerate — those important nutrients needed to maintain youthful skin. This is not even to mention the other bevy of minerals and other phytonutrients spinach contains.

Lemons: If you want clear, glowing and blemish-free skin, make sure lemons are part of your daily diet. Lemon aids with digestion by increasing the secretion of bile from the liver, while also acting as a strengthening agent to the liver’s enzymes. Any support to the liver, which is our primary detoxifying organ, is going to help acne in long run. Lemon supports digestion in the colon, promoting the elimination of waste more efficiently and regularly. It also acts as a blood purifier and as a cleansing agent to flush out bacteria and toxins in the body. These make it helpful in long-term weight loss. Although it has natural citric acids, lemon is actually alkaline-forming upon digestion.

Seeds and nuts are also key. Store them in the fridge or freezer for freshness. I always have raw almonds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds floating around my kitchen. I also keep quinoa and germinated brown rice around for fast meals I can just whip up and toss with veggies. Keeping items like this around is key for food emergencies. Keep gluten-free bread, wraps and acai packets in your freezer for emergency meals, like quick smoothies and avocado wraps!
