Welcome to our bikini advice column, featuring the hard-earned wisdom of our very own swimsuit master, the Bikini Whisperer. Today, we hear from a woman with full hips looking for a high-cut swimsuit to complement her shape — and the Bikini Whisperer has some ideas for how to handle. Looking for some advice of your own? Drop us a line!

Hey Bikini Whisperer,

I'd love to try the high-cut swimsuit trend this coming season, but I have full hips, and it's just not flattering — I look a lot wider, and the seam digs into my skin. Is this a trend for someone with curvy hips?

You may feel as if your hips are getting extra attention with a high-cut swimsuit, but literally, it's all about getting used to and then embracing a new trend. Some fads aren't for everyone, yet we beg you to give this one a try regardless of your body type. Baring a little extra skin always takes time and a zesty bit of confidence. Plus, curvy shapes are the rage right now, haven't you noticed? Curves of all sorts should be celebrated and not hidden — so if you're ready and willing to give the high-cut bikini a shot, here are the best bikinis that flatter voluptuous shapes.

First things first, fit is everything and something we all have to keep in mind. No bikini should ever cut into your skin; if it does, pass it up. For high-cuts on wider hips, it's a good idea to size up or find a swimsuit that sits comfortably on your hip.

Rove Wild Apex Double High bikini bottom in wild, $101 and Rove Wild La Lune bikini top in wild, $101

High-waists with high-cuts are what we're calling the new brief, which is uber flattering. It defines your waist and elongates the legs. If you carry your weight on your hips, this silhouette is ideal as it disguises love handles by covering and tucking at the right places. Thanks, Lycra!

SIE Swim

SIE Swim Stripe Print Moss bikini bottom in stripe print, $89 and SIE Swim Stripe Print Chloe bikini top in stripe print, $89

Vertical prints like stripes are a great trick for slimming down the body. The eye focuses on the height of your frame rather than the width.

M.G.S. Banned bikini top in jungle book, $89 and M.G.S. Hide Tide bikini bottom in jungle book, $59

Avoid double stitch finishes or bikinis with extra elastic around the hem — a seamless finish is your best bet. Raise it high above your hip so that it sits at the smallest part of your midsection and pair with a top that provides more coverage. It will draw the eye to the top portion of your frame.

Hot As Hell Eyelet Hahp 2 It one-piece swimsuit in eggshell white, $279

If ultra high-cuts are too risky for you, try one that offers a hipster bikini illusion like this one with adjustable ties.

For Love and Lemons

For Love And Lemons Mon Cheri String bikini bottom in black cherry, $89 and For Love And Lemons Mon Cheri Ruffle bikini top in black cherry, $119

String ties are a curvy girl's best friend with a forgiving fit. Play up with placement, either as a trendy high-cut feature when pulled way up or a traditional hipster.
