Introducing: Blue Life Swimwear Brings Bohemian Chic
If you’ve been on the lookout for a new bikini, look no further. This month, Bikini.com welcomes Blue Life swim, the newest addition to the celebrity-coveted, California powerhouse Planet Blue.
You may already be familiar with the retailer, who stocks a bevy of brands in addition to its own in-house label Blue Life, and has been serving stylish ladies of Los Angeles for years. Bohemian babes like Kate Hudson, Nicole Richie, and Vanessa Hudgens hit up Planet Blue’s storefronts for their SoCal style staples.
Now, with the release of their swimwear, we can finally take Blue Life past the shorelines and into the water.
Much like Planet Blue’s clothing line, Blue Life swim is inspired by the laidback lifestyle synonymous with coastal living. Pieces encompass all that is bohemian chic, maintaining authentic approachability without falling short on style. The 2014 collection pairs sexy silhouettes (think cut out designs and super plunge V-necklines) with sporty styles (T-strap back bikini tops and mesh paneling).
Learn more about Blue Life swim from founder Ling-Su Chinn below and dare to bare this summer in swimwear from the fresh new line.
Bikini: What piqued your interest in fashion?
Chinn: I wouldn't say that one thing piqued it, but rather fashion is something that I've always felt extremely passionate about. Growing up in Hawaii, I was constantly influenced by the colors and textiles that surrounded me.
Bikini: What has the journey been like from boutique owner to swimwear designer?
Chinn: As I began designing my own lines, Blue Life and Blu Moon, it seemed like a natural progression to start designing swimwear. I felt it was only right to tackle swimwear, especially with our perfect southern California backdrop.
Bikini: How would you describe the Blue Life girl?
Chinn: The Blue Life girl is an independent thinker and a true free spirit who seeks to inspire. She’s a wanderer, an artist, and a sun-kissed beauty.
Bikini: How does Blue Life’s signature SoCal style carry over to swim?
Chinn: Our Blue Life line embodies the essence of true California girl style, and that definitely carries over into our swim line. The beachy and bohemian-chic vibe is ingrained into each piece while subtle cutouts and sheer mesh show just the right amount of skin.
Bikini: What was your inspiration behind this collection?
Chinn: I wanted to design a versatile line that could take you from the beach, to a festival, to casual drinks in the city, and still look good.
Bikini: Which prints or cuts are you most excited about?
Chinn: I’m most excited about the tie-dyes because each piece is individually created by hand. My favorite cut is our high-leg one-pieces. I love that this style is making a revival.
Bikini: Which Blue Life swimsuit is your favorite?
Chinn: The Malibu Crush one-piece.
Bikini: Which swim trend do you predict will conquer the beach this summer?
Chinn: The one-piece, by a long shot.
Bikini: What do you credit the resurgence of the one-piece to? And how have you reinvented this style for Blue Life?
Chinn: The one-piece is a silhouette that can also be worn outside of the beach when styled with denim, pants, skirts, or shorts. Our iteration incorporates the high-leg feature, which elongates and thins out your legs.
Bikini: What can we look forward to in the future from Blue Life Swim?
Chinn: We will continue to push the boundaries of what swimwear can be. We believe it can become as essential to your wardrobe as the basic tee.
Bikini: What is your favorite travel destination?
Chinn: My hometown in Kailua, Hawaii.
Bikini: Where is the best beach in the world?
Bikini: What are your top three beach essentials?
Chinn: Sunscreen, popcorn, and my iPad.
