Circuit-based interval training is nothing new: High-intensity cardio plus some weights and some core work — yeah, yeah, you've heard it all before, right? Pause, people: New York's AKT In Motion turns the genre on its rear, so to speak, channeling a fast-paced cardio workout based on dance cardio but incorporating flexibility training and other fitness methods like TRX and Pilates.

Non-stop motion, as you might guess from the name, is part and parcel of stepping into the studio: contantly moving, whether you're stretching, jumping, or freestyling under the spinning disco ball, keep things exciting and effective. But where this differs from pick-up cardio classes at the gym is its whole-body approach to wellness, both of the body and the mind. On-site massage therapy and acupuncture provide students with restorative support, whether they are recovering from injury, returning to a workout program after having a baby, or just seeking a holistic mind/body balance.

Instructors, who are rigorously screened and certified in multiple fitness techniques, bring their A-game to every class, invigorating each workout with personality and intricate choreography that challenges the body and activates the mind. Progressive classes, which build from week to week upon building blocks of core dance and training principles, ensure that there's never a moment of boredom during a signature AKT class, whether you check out a 60-minute Happy Hour session, which blends signature dance cardio with stretch and strength training, or an S&M class which is all strength, no impact. If you're not in NYC, no biggie: There's a huge library of online workouts to stream, many which utilize the same gear (resistance bands, physio balls, hand weights) to really mimic the in-class experience. So there's no excuse not to get moving.
