Lash Couture Reaches Luxe Lengths

Posted by Bikini Owner

After years of ruling the impractical beauty kingdom, 3-D Japanese nail designs (which went as far as nails painted with sea urchin, tuna sashimi, and California rolls) have finally met their match. Introducing eyelash art.

Initially spotted in runway shows from Manish Arora to Alexander McQueen, the bizarre fad has officially gone mainstream—that is, you can actually purchase the over-the-top faux eyelashes at actual retailers.

Online, Shu Uemura international cosmetics line sells 10 of what they are calling “fantasy lashes” that range from $12 ones with beads to a package of feathered lashes for a whopping $499. Meanwhile, Sephora’s equivalent are “On The Fringes Lace Lashes” for $10 ($7 if you catch the sale).

We came across artist Natalie Russo selling handmade versions on Etsy. Adorned with micro pom-poms, beads, leaping dolphins, and an occasional unicorn, these lashes go from $15 to $50. While we might not be on board to wearing these on the beach, we certainly wouldn’t mind wearing the Peace Love and Panda set to Burning Man this weekend.

Check out all of them in the gallery above, and let us know what you think in the comment section below!
