Bikini.com celebrates its 12th Anniversary!!

So where were you in 1997? Maybe you were watching Austin Powers or Titanic, or listening to the Spice Girls and Sugar Ray. Well, we were busy launching this website. We can't believe it but July 4th marks the 12th anniversary of Bikini.com's launch. It seems like just yesterday that we were up all night trying to figure out how to make a plane fly across our homepage. Well it's been a great 12 years, and we are looking forward to many more fun years of celebrating beauty and the beach with you!

So thank you to all the Bikini.com fans out there for making this all possible. This Bikini.com birthday is dedicated to YOU! We wouldn't be traveling to cool beaches around the world with beautiful models without your support. :)

We would also like to thank the talented and dedicated people behind the scenes that make Bikini.com happen - the producers, photographers, models, programmers, art directors, and of course the lucky guy that holds the reflector on the photoshoots. We have as much fun making Bikini.com as you have looking at it. :)

Tribute to Farrah Fawcett

Message from Howie Sonnenschein, Co-Founder of Bikini.com:

Like many kids of my generation, I grew up with the iconic poster of Farrah Fawcett in her red swimsuit on my bedroom wall. Perhaps she was part of my initial awakening into the beauty of girls in swimsuits. Her 1,000 watt smile, tousled hair and provocative pose made that poster the best selling poster of all time. The fact that she was always looking over me and smiling made me want to smile right back at her. She was one of Bikini.com's all-time top swimsuit icons, and a personal favorite of mine. In fact for years I have kept my original Farrah bubble gum package sticker that I got in 1977 on my desk, as inspiration for finding the next Farrah. She passed away today, way too soon, and all of us at Bikini.com just want to pay tribute today to this beautiful woman in her famous red swimsuit.

Bikini.com may be the world’s biggest beach party – but we think we may be spotting some even bigger beach party animals during the upcoming weekend of June 11-14 at The Hukilau in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. What’s the Hukilau? Well in old Hawaiian days, it was a traditional Hawaiian fishing festival, where a giant net was cast into the sea that the villagers pulled back to shore. It emphasized the spirit of family and community. This groovy modern day Hukilau is a net thrown out to the entire world, bringing lovers of “Mid-Century Polynesian Pop” and “Tiki” culture from all over the world together for a very special swinging weekend celebration. It's Tiki Geek Chic!

Organized by Tiki Kiliki (aka Christie White, but it’s so much cooler calling her Tiki), past events have been weekends full of entertainment and laughs. The crowd is full of beautiful girls in vintage Hawaiian outfits and guys in cool Hawaiian shirts and hats. (We’re not sure if they look like that all the time, but it sure is fun for a weekend.) Event highlights will include the surf sounds of Los Straitjackets, the Tikki Beach Boat Cruise, a presentation from Mai-Tai cocktail expert Jeff "Beachbum" Berry, a tiki art show, the annual pilgrimage to the world-famous Mai-Kai, and one of our favorite groups, The Intoxicators. If you can make it to Fort Lauderdale, you should not miss the Hukilau 2009-- we will be there with our flaming drinks and hula skirts on. For more information, check out The Hukilau.

American Idol finale gets a double dose of bikinis!

The competition was definitely on during the finals of American Idol last night -- but not just because of the singing. Famed contestant Katrina Darrell (aka "Bikini Girl"), strutted her new and "improved" figure during the grand finale while singing an earnest version of "Vision of Love". Not to be outdone, American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, who had been clashing with Bikini Girl during the season, sprang into action against her nemesis, singing a far better rendition during the singing catfight. To further ensure that she showed Bikini Girl just who was the winner of their own little competition, Kara launched a personal wardrobe malfunction which allowed her to rip open her dress, showing off her own bikini bod (and may we say, not bad at all.) The normally outspoken judge suddenly became demure, and it was explained that she had entered this bikini contest for charity. Hey Kara -- we'll be happy to donate to the charity of your choice, if you model for Bikini.com. But based on last night, please don't write our theme song.
