Sharlene Osborne is a study in contrasts. On one hand, she works at Hooters and has danced with the Miami Heat and the Miami Dolphins. On the other hand, she plans to be a doctor specializing in rehabilitation medicine. This Caribbean beauty truly impressed us with her intelligence, her work ethic, and her aspirations for the future.

How would you describe yourself?

I’m very charismatic, I’m very outgoing, very loyal and I’m a very, very hard worker.

What do you like to do for fun?

I like to work out, and I also fish. I live in a very small town on the west coast of Florida, and there is nothing to do there but fish and go to Hooters, which is where I work. So I have it all covered.

Where would you like to be in the future?

As far as my modeling goes, my dream job would be to work for Victoria’s Secret. I’d love to work for Sports Illustrated. As my backup career, I’m currently pre-med at the University of Miami. I’m taking all nine classes, I have one more year to go before I go to med school. And I want to open up a spa, like a full service spa, get your nails done, get massage, get acupuncture, that’s like my other dream.

Let’s talk about the pre-med. What makes you want to be a doctor?

I’ve always been interested in medicine and the actual subdivision of medicine that I want to do which is post-surgery muscle rehab/physical therapy. I’ve always been very active, and I did competitive gymnastics for 16 years. I danced for the Miami Heat and the Dolphins. I’ve always been very active but I also got hurt a lot. With all those doctors visits, I wondered, how does your body heal, and what is the process that I have to go through to get my body to heal thoroughly. And it’s always kind of intrigued me, so that’s why I chose to go into that field of medicine.

How about your activities with the Miami Heat? Is it like cheerleading?

With the Heat its dance, and with the Dolphins it’s kind of dance too. But I did do actual competitive college cheerleading at the University of South Florida. And I competed in college and also in high school. I also coached and I still coach every now and then when I’m in my town, in Port Charlotte. I started dance when I was two. I was born in Trinidad and Tobago and moved up to the United States when I was eight. But I’ve been dancing since I was two, I had ballet, classical ballet, and jazz. And I’ve also been doing gymnastics for that long. I also did it in middle school, when I moved up to the United States I was very active with it, and I was a very hard studier. I never really had a life as a kid, I was always in practice or in school or helping out my family. And that activity as a child kind of kept with me until adulthood.

Are you active in any cheerleading or dance now?

The only reason I’m not really that active with cheerleading and dance right now is because the town that I live in doesn’t really have any big teams, like the Dolphins or the Heat. But I did dance for the Miami City Ballet. As a child in middle school I started dancing for the Dance Theater of Harlem. I did a year with the Miami Heat, with the Miami Heat Extreme Team, which is stunt dunking. I used to do the trampoline dunks, like doing a front flip and dunking the ball. Most people don’t know that about me. But I used to do all kinds of extreme stuff. I cheered in college, did competitive cheerleading in college. And I’ve been very active with Hooters, too. So I pretty much have no time to indulge in all that other stuff. But I’m getting older, and my career path is changing. I’m very comfortable with where I’m at right now.

What is it about dance that you like?

I love dancing. It’s a way for me to express myself and get my point across. With choreography you can’t hear what I’m saying, but you can feel it with emotions and with the dance moves that I do. With cheerleading, I love it because it’s so extreme. A lot of people think that cheerleading is not a sport, but when you’re tossing the girls 50 feet in the air and they land on their head, then you know it’s nothing to be joked around with. Actually I think the fittest I ever was in my life, was when I was competing in college doing cheerleading. It’s really intense, it requires a lot of your time and you have to be really focused and committed for it. So I guess like I said all those traits from my past experiences carry on into my personality in the future and how hard I work. If you ever go talk to my manager, they’ll tell you I’m there early, I work my butt off, I’m in and I’m out, I do what I have to do and I enjoy it.

What kind of music do you like?

I like all genres of music. I love rock, believe it or not. I love hiphop, I love R&B. I’m starting to grow on country because I live in a small town and its very southern, very agricultural and all of my customers at Hooters are pushing country music on me. So I’m really starting to like a lot of country songs like Kenny Chesney. It’s bad, but it’s not so bad at the same time!

Tell us about where you’re from.

I was born in Trinidad and Tobago, they are the most southern part of the Caribbean, and they are seven miles away from Venezuela. As a matter of fact from a certain point in Venezuela you can see Trinidad and vice versa. It’s beautiful, very untouched, the beaches are pure white sand. Great scuba diving, great snorkeling, great forests, great hiking, it’s a great place. I suggest if you want a secluded vacation away from everyone, go to Trinidad. I was born there and my whole family still lives down there. My parents are actually moving back down there. But I haven’t been back to visit as often as I’d like to. The first time I’ve been back in 15 years was last month. It was quite an experience, I was kind of scared, my biggest fear was going back to Trinidad and seeing a McDonalds on every corner and hotels everywhere, and I missed out on the country developing. But it’s still in the process of doing so and that makes me proud because it shows me that the people of my country

What are the women like in Trinidad?

The women in Trinidad are very hospitable, they are very loyal and they will do anything for their husbands.

What kind of guys do you like?

The kind of guys that I like? I like them to be intelligent. If I can’t hold a conversation with you, I don’t care how hot you are -- I can’t date you. Been there, done that, don’t need to do that again. I like guys who are funny, who take care of themselves and work out, I like a gym buddy. And I like guys that inspire me to keep going and reach my goals. I strongly believe in success by association and I don’t like to be around people that bring me down. So if you’re positive, it’s a plus for you!
